St. Lawrence String Quartet
with Heidi Grant Murphy, soprano and Kevin Murphy, piano
Wednesday, February 4, 7:30 pm, Clapp Recital Hall

The St. Lawrence String Quartet, an ensemble the Washington Post praises as “fearless musicians whose spontaneity stretches past conventional interpretation,” returns to present a new work co-commissioned by Hancher via Music Accord.

Roberto Sierra’s Songs from the Diaspora draws on the melodies and poetry Spanish Jews carried with them upon their expulsion from late fifteenth-century Spain. As they settled throughout the Mediterranean, the exiles preserved these traditions which have survived in various forms to this very day.

Acclaimed soprano Heidi Grant Murphy gives voice to the Middle-Eastern flavored melodies.

Chausson: Chansons Perpétuelle
Mendelssohn: Quartet in F Minor, op. 80
