Choreography and creativity come to campus.

Hubbard Street 2

Thursday-Friday, September 22-23, 7:30 pm — Space Place Theater

Hancher Commission

Preperformance Discussion: Thursday, September 22, 6:30 PM, Wild Bill's Coffe Shop, North Hall, 3rd Floor with Taryn Kaschock Russell, Glenn Edgerton, and Clebio Oliveira.

In keeping with our commitment to commissioning dance, Hancher is proud to partner with Hubbard Street 2 in the company's National Choreographic Competition. Since 1999, the competition has allowed promising young choreographers to create an original work with the inventive Hubbard Street 2 dancers. This year—for the first time in the program's history—Hubbard Street 2 will engage in the creative endeavor outside of Chicago, coming to Iowa City to integrate UI student dancers into this process. The performance will feature the world premiere of the resultant work, as well as established Hubbard Street 2 repertoire.

A note about content
The third piece on the program features male dancers wearing only dance belts; the sixth piece on the program includes strong adult content.

This project is supported in part by an award from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Hancher Partners, and gifts to Hancher Circle through the University of Iowa Foundation.
