Sonny Rollins / CANCELLED

The University of Iowa’s Hancher has announced the cancellation of its April 2 performance featuring saxophonist Sonny Rollins. Rollins has been diagnosed with a respiratory illness that will prevent him from performing for the next several months. There are no plans to reschedule the Hancher performance. Ticketholders, who will be contacted by the Hancher Box Office, may receive a full refund or may choose to donate the ticket price to the UI Foundation to support Hancher. Such donations would be tax deductible. Patrons with questions can contact the Hancher Box Office at 335-1160 or 1-800-HANCHER.

Legendary saxophonist Sonny Rollins has blazed one of the most illustrious careers in jazz. In the 1950s, he quickly established a reputation for being among the most brash and creative young tenor saxophonists on the scene, paving the way for an awe-inspiring legacy that President Obama honored with the 2011 Medal of Arts. Now, at 82 years old, Rollins is as raucous as ever, and Hancher is thrilled to celebrate the organization's 40th anniversary with jazz's greatest elder statesmen.
