Ti-Coca & Wanga Nègès—Club Hancher
Friday, October 5, 7:30 and 10 pm
Masters of Haiti's acoustic troubadour tradition, Ti-Coca and his band, Wanga Nègès, have inspired world audiences with the music of their cultural heritage for over 30 years. The group peppers the sounds of plunky banjos and slithering accordions with upbeat percussion to formulate the easy, tasty dance rhythms of their indigenous mareng and konpa. Covering tunes
from folklore to pop, Ti-Coca and Wanga-Nègès are "a loose-limbed, rootsy treat" (BBC Music). The concert will wrap up a week of cultural exchange throughout the Iowa City community.
Please note that city ordinance prohibits admission of anyone under 19 for the 10 p.m. performance.
