The Englert Theatre is located in downtown Iowa City, just around the corner from the pedestrian mall. Hancher performances in the Englert are all assigned seating, both on the main floor and in the balcony.
The Englert Theatre is located at 221 E Washington St,
Iowa City, IA, 52240.
The Englert Theatre is located in downtown Iowa City, very close to the pedestrian mall and the University of Iowa campus.
From I-80, take the Dubuque St exit going south (towards downtown). Continue on Dubuque St until you cannot go any further: A T-intersection with Washington St. Turn left onto Washington St, and the Englert is half a block down on your right.
Limited street parking is available in front of the Englert. Several city parking ramps are located just a short walk away from the Englert -- the Clocktower ramp on Iowa Ave, and the Dubuque St Garage, next to the Sheraton.
The Englert has recently renovated theatre seats that are padded with armrests.
There is wheelchair-accessible seating on both the main floor and in the balcony. On the main floor, there is a row of removable chairs at the back, so there is space for one wheelchair and one accompanying person per group. There are no steps on the main floor. In the balcony, there are spaces for four wheelchairs and/or accompanying people who use chairs. However, getting to these balcony spaces involves using a regular elevator to the second floor, then an electric chair lift to go down another six steps.
There are four handicapped parking spaces directly in front of the building, and there is also loading/unloading space (for one car at a time). There are also limited other parking spaces on the street. The next best option is the city parking ramps where there are elevators.
Restrooms are located off of the main floor and balcony lobbies.
Light refreshments (such as coffee, soda and cookies) will be available in the lobby during intermission. There is no coat check at this facility.
