In anticipation of a new grand opening in 2016, Hancher Auditorium will begin its 2015 campaign with a free event packed with art, food, games and more this Saturday, August 22 from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. “Drawing Closer: Celebrating Hancher’s Upcoming Opening” is a family festival that will feature professional chalk artists, a STEAM workshop, and the band Squonk Opera.

The Awful Purdies, all all-female quintet, embarked on a yearlong project with Sean Lewis of Working Group Theater, traveling around the state to hear stories from people in Iowa — including lots of farmers — as part of an Iowa Arts Council grant. The experience culminated in the Purdies’ newest album, All Recipes Are Home, and a Hancher-commissioned play by the same name.

The University of Iowa’s Hancher has announced its lineup of performances for the 2015-2016 season. Hancher donors will soon receive a season brochure that will allow them to purchase tickets via the included order form. Tickets will go on sale to the general public Aug. 24.
